My top 5 most used essential oils
I have been a fan of doTERRA Essential Oils, sharing them with my family, friends and yoga students for a few years now. Last year I decided to offer them as a compliment to my yoga teachings. Using essential oils in my yoga practice and in life in general helps me quickly drop into a focused, yet relaxed mindset. And I find when I share them in class, my students brighten up and are more attentive and engaged.
Here are my top 5 most used essential oils that I personally use and recommend to others:
1. Air
For all things respiratory/ allergies and breathing easy. Breathe better. This is a beautiful blend of Laurel Leaf, Peppermint Plant, Eucalyptus Leaf/Stem, Melaleuca Leaf, Lemon Peel, Ravensara Leaf, and Cardamom Seed essential oils. This Air blend helps to maintain the feelings of clear airways and easy breathing. It also helps to minimise the effects of seasonal allergies or environmental irritations. Try it in a diffuser or use the roll on on wrists, behind the neck or on the soles on the feet.
2. Lavender
For all things relaxing, soothing + calm. I diffuse lavender at night to ease falling asleep and staying asleep. I also rub this on the soles of my feet and on my wrists and inhale deeply. I mix this into my yoga mat cleaner for antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s great to use after a yoga practice, before entering savasana.
3. On Guard
This is the best defence for your immune system. It also has amazing cleansing properties. This is one of doTERRA's most popular oils, it protects against environmental and seasonal threats with essential oils known for their positive effects on the immune system. It contains wild orange peel, clove bud, cinnamon cark, eucalyptus leaf, and rosemary leaf/flower essential oils. John Hopkins did a study that found On Guard kills 70% of super bugs! I diffuse this scent around the house, clean my floors with it and clean my yoga mat, too. I’ve even put a couple of drops on to apple slices. It’s delicious!
4. Lemon
This oil is a great staple. Lemon is a powerful cleansing agent that purifies the air and surfaces, and can be used as a non-toxic cleaner throughout the home. I use it daily in my drinking water, diffuse it for brightness and freshness, clean my counter tops with it and even put a few drops in my laundry to leave it feeling fresh and clean. When mixed with lavender and peppermint can help with hayfever.
5. Clary Sage
Clary sage is an incredibly effective essential oil for balancing hormones. I’ve been using this daily as I begin my journey through menopause. It helps balance out estrogen levels and ensures the long-term health of the uterus, promotes healthy hair and scalp, keeps cortisol levels stable and calms the body and mind. Clary sage opens the blood vessels and allows for increased blood circulation; it also naturally lowers blood pressure by relaxing the brain and arteries. And, hot flashes can be naturally remedied with the help of clary sage.
Essential oils transform your energy, health, mood + overall wellness
Essential oils are nature's oldest medicine, and one drop of these therapeutic grade oils are 50-70 times stronger than herbs! Consider trying some of these essentials for your home, your office, or whenever you need a little boost. I use doTERRA oils for their purity, high quality, but there are other good brands, too. There IS a difference in quality. Make sure you research how the oils are processed and under what conditions. You may pay a little bit more, but they are worth it.
